Short Circutz were a series of short computer-animated videos that were played between television shows on YTV Canada every afternoon and evening from September 5, 1994 until August 31, 1997.
Most videos were 1 to 4 minutes long, but did not always air at full length depending on the amount of time available to fill. The videos were all sampled from three film collections: The Mind's Eye, its sequel Beyond the Mind's Eye, and Imaginaria. These collections were released physically on VHS and LaserDisc but the majority did not see a DVD release, and the YTV versions are limited to VHS rips on YouTube.
For this project, I collected the footage and graphics from digital archives in the highest quality available, and reconstructed all 32 of the Short Circutz to the formatting they appeared as on YTV in the 90s. Many graphics were of lowest quality and were reconstructed to best resemble the look and feel of the original screenings. They were then authored into a DVD for personal use among media archivists and nostalgia enthusiasts.
Tools used: DVDStyler, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, MS ClipChamp, Google Nano Banana.
The Disc Image (ISO file) and other assets for this project will be available on the Internet Archive for public access and download.
